Bert Riehle examines 60 German-speaking authors who developed federalist peace theories between 1892 and 1932 - theories that seek to achieve international peace through the creation of a federation of states. These include theories on the League of Nations and precursory conceptions of the European Union. The theories can be grouped into five categories: pacifism, nationalism, imperialism, continentalism and socialism. A preliminary outline is followed by a detailed, systematic cross-comparison of the concepts.
