When Enzo Uccello, a five-foot-five, Italian-American fireman on an errand of mercy meets Genevieve Sayers, a six foot Canadian veterinarian, he has no idea of the wild turn his life has just taken.
Fifteen peaceful years have passed since the Sayers' horrendous experience on the Bluemen's planet. The easy rhythm of their lives begins to change, however, when Arthur Worthington, a childhood classmate from England, buys the estate next to the Sayers.' Simon wants to believe that the old animosity Arthur harbored for him is in the past, but the man's actions belie his conciliatory words, and Simon begins to worry that Arthur might prove a genuine threat to his family.
The Sayers' grown children are coming home for a reunion with the Elpies and Bluepeople. Already on edge, Simon's reaction is less thatn gracious when their daughter, Genevieve, shows up win an unexpected fiance. To complicate matters further, their youngest son is leaving to become a probationary crew memeber on the Bluemen's ship, a move which holds terrible consequences that none anticipates.
When Arthur's attempts to humiliate Simon backfire, his vengeance takes a more lethal form. Kidnapping and attempted murder spur Simon to set out on his own to put an end to the violence, forbidding his family to follow.
Unwilling to lose Simon a third time, Bess gears the family up for a raid. A grisly death awaits the Sayers and their Elpie friends unless the group can once again join forces and fight. With the help of their alien-enhanced animals, a Colder, and a couple of Sarah's macaroon addicted aliens, they go to war in the exciting conclusion of The Elpie Trilogy.
