Britt's 19 book of poetry, "Emergency Room," a collection of what could be called some of his most profound and difficult work to date, offers us an example of how a poet addresses social issues without being didactic. For the "issue" that underlies the "Emergency Room," taken as a whole, is nothing less than Amer-ica's descent into the twenty-first cen-tury's version of the Wasteland.
