Asacon- quence, extensiveindustrypracticeofusingthetechnologiesisbeinggained. At thesametime, thetechnologiescontinuetoadvanceandnewfunctionalityand servicescontinuetobeintroduced. Inordertousetheexistingandemergingfunctionsofdistributedobjectte- nologiese?ectively, andtobettermeettoday'sdemandingbusinessandcomp- ingrequirements, advancesinsoftwareengineeringmethodsandtechniquesfor distributedobjectsarestronglyneeded. Softwareengineeringfordistributed- jectsistheresearchareathatprovidessolutionsofprovenpracticeforissuesand problemsthatareuniquetosystemsemployingdistributedobjecttechnologies. EDOis the premierworkshopthatbringstogetherthe researchandpractice communityofsoftwareengineeringfordistributedobjects. Wereceivedabout30submissionsandtheinternationalprogramcommittee selected15papers. Weclusteredacceptedpapersintosessionsandtheauthors ofthesepaperschampionedthesessionsandtookaleadinthediscussions. The workshoporganizersselectedparticularauthorstogivebriefpresentationsthat wereaimedtokicko?thediscussionineachsession. Theresultofthedi?erent sessionswassummarizedattheendoftheworkshopandthesesessionsummaries areincludedintheseproceedings. Alsointraditionwiththeworkshopseries, wehadaninvitedindustrialp- sentation.
