Laila Rahimi Parsiyar left Afghanistan with her mother and sister during the Russian invasion at the age of 12 and settled in New York with her extended family. It was then that she decided to start her career from scratch. Even though Laila faced several unexpected obstacles throughout her life, from the sudden death of beloved family members to fighting cancer and enduring heartbreaks, she survived it all. In 1989, Laila moved to Texas, where she received an undergraduate degree in dental hygiene and biology. For many years she worked as a dental hygienist in Dallas, only to find out that she had to resign due to her back injury and breast cancer diagnosis. However, she fought back with determination, resilience, and steadfastness. Today, Laila resides happily with her family in Texas.
