Traditionally the Gayatri Mantra is initiated in the
Yagnopavit ceremony
, by a Master to his disciples in a gurukul. However, most of us learn this famed mantra through radio, our grandparents or our favorite smartphone. What is the difference? In a gurukul when the Guru gives this mantra, he ensures the intellect is receptive, respectful and compassionate in the use of the Mantra. INTELLECT governs CHARACTER & SUCCESS, and rules our entire LIFE. Mantras are carefully chosen words strung like a gorgeous necklace in tuned verses. Specific words with deep meanings, they emanate powerful vibrations. The whole universe is नाम रूप - name & form - i.e. vibration. Scientifically, electrons and protons are spinning waves. When you chant, your tongue moves inside the mouth, touching the root, palate, lips or teeth, and stimulates the hypothalamus,
pineal
and pituitary glands, corresponding to the
sahasrara
and
ajna
chakras. The palate has 84 meridian points corresponding to the 84 Yoga asanas. The recitation sound wave strongly impinges the actions of the glands and thus governs the endocrine and
circulatory
systems, releasing necessary
enzymes
and assisting proper
pulsation
of the heart. Thus, the sound vibrations of Gayatri Mantra chanting help balance the body, mind and senses, and have immense immunizing and healing effects. The Gayatri Mantra is traditionally known as the verse consisting of
24 syllables
