An Entangled Affair of Love and Justice The entire legal community of Kansas City is shaken to its core by the seemingly accidental death of Judge David Cover. He, apparently, stumbled down an empty elevator shaft in a construction zone. Ten months later, when the murder trial begins, it is presided over by Judge Katelyn "Kat" Mundy, a close friend of the dead judge. A twist emerges when David's ghost appears to Kat and reveals a shocking truth: his death wasn't an accident. According to his ghost, it was another lawyer, Frederick "Drick" Darcy, who pushed him down the shaft to his death. Determined to honor her friend and seek justice, Kat takes on the daunting task of finding proof to back up the dead judge's claim. This is where things get complicated. Mike McDavid, an attorney and construction rehabber with whom David had a heated but professional history, stands trial for the murder. To further complicate matters, Mike's wife, Lolita McDavid, is also Kat's division clerk. Kat delves into the case, subtly gathering information about Darcy. He is a man she's disliked since their college days. With the help of Tar Waters, a retired detective, she meticulously builds a case against Darcy. Meanwhile, David's ghostly presence increased his advances towards the judge. Their past platonic bond slowly has deepened into a passionate romance. Memories flooded Kat- their shared history from college and law school, their constant support for each other, and the comfortable intimacy of two people who were each other's only confidants. The truth dawns upon her with a grounding stillness. They were soulmates. Kat had always felt that their connection transcended friendship even in university and after it.
