GREAT COMICS was first published November 1941 and contained a long lost potpourri of Golden Age brilliance. It had superhero stories featuring The Great Zarro and Madame Strange. There is humor with the Barrel of Fun section. There are amazing exploits from history with the Great Manhunts and espionage with World's Great Spies features. There are spectral shenanigans with the Ghosts of Snaggle
Castle. There is bizarre boxing in Fletcher Hanks Moe M. Downe stories. There are war tales courtesy of the Devil Dogs Three.
The writing and art credits include Bob Kane (co-creator of Batman), Frank Little, Art Saaf, Andre LeBlanc,
Heza Souse, Chuck Winter, Rudy Palais and Fletcher Hanks.
Great Comics published only two titles, GREAT COMICS and CHOICE COMICS. Both series only lasted three issues a piece. Great Comics Inc. was located at 220 West 42nd St., New York City. Other tenants at that address were publishers Holyoke and Temerson . there is no evidence showing a direct relationship between Great Comics Publications, Inc. and any other comics publishing company. The building contained multiple office suites apart from Great Comics Inc. Great Comics Inc also used a separate distributor and had its own creative staffs.
This book was compiled with the best images currently available. That stated, these comics are eighty years old. The best efforts have been made to make the pages as enjoyable as possible but not every panel is perfect and some allowances for the age of the books need to be considered when judging the overall contents
