Juan Nepomuceno Almonte, son of José María Morelos y Pavón, arrives in France to ask Napoleon III for help, with the intention of supporting Maximilian’s rule. However, he is unsuccessful. A few months after the emperor’s execution, a clandestine group of Mexican and French people, looking to establish a Third Mexican Empire, contact Almonte to endorse their ambitions.
