From the Author: Humobile is a book designed to assist a person/family (especially baby boomers) with a sick or injured loved one at home, especially if they do not have any family to help or lack basic nursing/healthcare knowledge and skills. It is also designed to assist home health aides, nursing aides, assistant living aides, nursing students, medical assistants, or even seasoned medical or preventative health care practitioners with the activities of daily living for the person who they are taking care of. In other words, it gives the "why" behind the "what" you are doing for the home patient and shows you how to "safely" take care of yourself and your loved one or home patient. It is written in simple terminology, which leads to easy reading and understanding. It describes the correlationship between a human body and an automobile in relationship to being "good working mechanical machines or run down old jalopies.—Dolores Margaret Monahan As a child, I was always fixing boo-boos on my cats and dogs, and of course on my baby dolls. And before I knew it, I was fixing boo-boos on babies - -real babies-- And they were mine! I always liked role-playing as a nun or as a nurse when I was a child, but the nun part went right out the window the day I discovered boys--but I never lost my interest in caring for people! I started out as a volunteer for our elite senior citizens in the community when my children were in school, then I became a Personal Care Aide (PCA) in the community and I really enjoyed it. I made $3 or $3.50 an hour way back then. That little job as a PCA made my self-esteem skyrocket! I figured that if I could do that, well then, I can become a Nursing Assistant (NA), and I did! I went on to become a Nurse Tech while in college, then a License Practical Nurse, and eventually a Registered Nurse, and I hold a NY State Private Teacher's License. Today, I am a Doctor of Naturology, and plan to finish my Ph.D. in Naturology (Non-Medical Preventative & Natural Health). Currently I am the owner and Director of RN Teaching Services, and an Associate of the Willsey Institute of S. I. , NY, (formerly the Nursing Coordinator and Instructor for the Certified Nursing Assistant Program and Home Health Courses). My experiences as an RN Supervisor, Home Health Instructor and In-service Speaker, along with teaching clinical skills in local hospitals and nursing homes has brought me a world of knowledge, confidence in care giving skills, and so much pleasure being able to teach and assist others safely. And I would like to bring my experiences to you, the Caregiver.
