Nicole Stobson thought her life was never going to change. She was destined to care for her mother Janine, work in the local supermarket and be a spinster. When Aaron Velton, her employers son, returns to the town, her life slowly begins to change and blossom.
The circumstances surrounding Nicole's father's death have caused a traumatic breakdown in Janine. Embarrassed by her mother's behaviour and fuelled by her manipulative friend Penny, Nicole tries to keep them away from the gossip and pity of the town. Nicole's brother Brett returns to the town and shows her that people are willing to help, not pity them.
Nicole becomes confused and torn. Penny dislikes Aaron Velton with venom. Her issues with him make her angry and unreasonable. Nicole begins to see the real Penny through Brett's observations and past experiences. Aaron offers help to Janine and appears to be genuine until Nicole sees it as pity. Her emotions are confused but she takes Brett's advice and opens herself up to others. Years of low self esteem make her believe that Aaron is too good for her and she tries to forget him.
A stalker has begun to terrorise the women of Gloston at the same time that Aaron and Brett returned to the town. Could this stalker be one of them? Nicole sees clues everywhere that arouse her suspicions. When the stalker comes after her, she has to confront the stalker and plead for her life.
