China has a population of more than one billion people, which means it has more people than any other country in the world. China is also one of the largest countries geographically. Additionally the history of China goes back to ancient times.
With a country so large and so old it would impossible to cover more than a fraction of the artwork that represents this subject. This book is meant simply to give you an introduction into the world of Chinese art. Perhaps it will give you a desire to learn more about this fascinating country.
Many of these pieces are very old and there was not always an exact date; therefore this book is organized by century. I have included many works by Chinese artists and a few by others who visited China or painted the people of China.
