Neglected and abused by her mother, Jane has sought out escape through drugs and alcohol. But Jane is also seeking escape from terrifying visions that threaten her sanity. What Jane doesn't know is that these visions are symptomatic of a genetically inherited "gift" to manipulate energy.
When Jane is sent to live with distant cousins Joanna and Dean, she struggles to trust her new family ties, but also finds herself forming ties with several of the former residents who are haunting the crumbling estate-like manor that the family has recently purchased. Will, handsome and charismatic, is one of several spirits in limbo on the estate. With her ability to manipulate energy, Jane finds that she can make physical contact with Will, and it quickly becomes Jane's hope to find a way to bring them all the way back from limbo.
However, as Jane begins to settle into the idea of a fresh start with her new family, it all becomes threatened by another lingering entity-Frank Sullivan, the former "keeper" of the house known to serially rape the girls under his care and murder others-who has returned with the prospect of a new victim.
Jane must quickly learn how to harness and utilize her gift so that she can protect her new family and friends, as well as protect herself from becoming Sullivan's next victim.
