Sitting somewhere at the intersection of light & airy and rich & creamy (an intersection that happens to look a whole lot like the freezer case at your neighborhood Trader Joe’s), new Trader Joe’s Japanese Soufflé Cheesecakes present a study in contrasts. Made with sweetened condensed milk and cream cheese, they straddle the line between light-as-air soufflés and moist, toothsome cheesecakes—and oh, what a delicious line it is.
Made for us in Japan, where simple, single-serve cakes like these are ubiquitous in cafes and corner stores, TJ’s Soufflé Cheesecakes are an easy, no-mess dessert option for evenings (or afternoons) when being tethered to an oven isn’t on the menu. Simply remove these cute, crustless cakes from their packaging when you get home from work, school, or carpool duty, thaw them for about 3 hours in the refrigerator, and dessert is served! Or, if you’re feeling fancy, top them with a few fresh strawberry slices, a scoop of TJ’s Ube Ice Cream, or a spoonful of TJ’s Mandarin Oranges in Light Syrup and whipped cream.
