Temperance, one of the four primary virtues of the Stoics, which later became the cardinal virtues, is studied here in the various meanings that it took on from the end of the Middle Ages to the beginning of the Renaissance . The volume, which contains an abundant anthology, follows the same model as the earlier volume devoted to the virtue of Prudence.
