Why We Love It
- Founded by Joseph and Teresa Ahearne, El Porteño first offered their handmade empanadas at farmers markets around the Bay Area. The savory turnovers were made in small batches using recipes from Joseph's mother – who is herself una porteña, or native of Buenos Aires. The company still makes their fillings by hand and assembles each empanada individually for the perfect balance of flavors and textures. These empanadas de cordero are filled with herb-seasoned lamb braised in Malbec red wine and surrounded by a flaky, buttery crust. A side of chimichurri sauce adds tangy heat to the Argentinian treat.
