Spacious, reverb-drenched, and yet still achingly intimate, Nurse & Soldier's quiet synth-pop is a less frantic--but just as imaginative--outlet for Oneida's "Bobby Matador" (Rob Thacher) and his wife, singer/multi-instrumentalist Erica Fletcher. The simple, brief songs all share a circular quality, built around hypnotic keyboard spirals with little sparks of horn, guitar, percussion, and lovely male/female harmonies. As the title suggests, this isn't an epic work, but a study in brief, pretty strokes.
