Trudy is still obsessed with her sister's husband, Max. But Max is torn between his loyalty to his wife, Margot, and giving in to Trudy, who might turn him in for the murder of her husband, the SS officer Rudolph. Margot is on the run, hiding from both the Nazis and her own sister, who is threatening to expose her as a Jew. After the violent confrontation with Rudolph, she loses the child she was carrying and seeks refuge with Ben, the Jewish man she has always loved.
