A collection of letters from Joseph Canvin to his wife Florence Canvin, 1941-1944.
In 1937, Joseph was accepted into the Marine Corps. At age nineteen, he officially began his career in the military. At age sixteen, Florence was focused on her own education in Brooklyn, New York, until one day, they had met each other in passing at the Sperry Instrument School in downtown Brooklyn.
The letters open as Joseph began courting Florence. They officiated their marriage on October 5th, 1941, and shortly after Joseph was deployed overseas to the South Pacific, in what would later be known as the Pacific War, which developed into World War II. Florence remained state side, awaiting the return of her new husband.
