Excerpt from Methods of Teaching Geography: Notes of Lessons
It was necessary to determine what could be done, and what could be omitted. A mere outlining of a plan of study would be neither helpful nor satisfactory. It seemed desirable, therefore, to try to indicate the stages of a progressive course of study, and to present methods of teaching a few important points. The topics selected for fuller treatment were among those that require simple and careful presenta tion by teachers, in order that the concise statements of the text-books may be comprehended by pupils. It should be stated, however, that these topics, when illustrated in their proper connections in the regular class-teaching, will not have the undue prominence that was given them designedly in this brief course of lessons.
The printed notes indicate the arrangement and method followed; but the lessons were not written out at the time they were given, and no attempt has been made to reproduce them in full.
