A colouring book that isn't intended as a colour-bewteen-the-lines kinda experience. There's plenty of other books where you can do that! This is a reclamation of colour: of the process, of the expression, of the activity. A space on a page where you are the anonymous collaborator with one of our artists; someone you will likely never meet, who has asked you to contribute to the extension and reimagining of their work. With contributions from MG artists from around the world, this book will make you think, question and color! This coloring book has been created by Micro Galleries - a free global arts initiative, collective and virtual creative hub that uses art as a vehicle to create positive change. We do this through creative interventions in public spaces, workshops, art tours, symposiums, think tanks, and residencies. We work together with communities who are in some kind of social or creative need, and together create new opportunities, imaginings, and creative possibilities. So, think of us as providing a kind of urban acupuncture! A creative clinic where we prescribe a range of micro injections, which culminate in our annual Micro Galleries Festival, Micro Galleries Live. MG Live reclaims disused and forgotten spaces and reactivates them as tiny galleries that are free and accessible to the local community. Bringing together international and local artists, it features work that challenges ingrained ideas, blurs the line between street art and fine art, and aims to help change the way we see the world, our environment and our community - even for a micro moment. Micro Galleries aims to demonstrate that art is for everyone and can have a positive impact on a community; that art does not have to only be presented in galleries and theatres, but can break out of these spaces and ingrain itself into the public; that everyone can have ownership and involvement in the creation and appreciation of art work, and that art can help makes lives richer, facilitate deeper conversations and can invite a range of perspectives into our social, political and environmental conversations. The original concept for The Artist Coloring Book and this iteration's curation is by artist Chuck Scalin. All profits go towards Micro Galleries free programs.
