Why have I stated this at the outset? Because I want to give to the reader as honest a book as I possi bly can. In The Curse of Intellect, written in 1895, I tried to get at an independent point of view for the sur vey of human experience. The book in one sense was successful, but,as regards the main object, it was a failure, - the point of view was not independent.
