"Name the Thing in the Place: Student Companion" is a simple space for students to reflect while working together to develop an anti-racist school community. It is created for use in implementing the method outlined in "Name the Thing in the Place: A Guide to Developing an Anti-Racist School Community". The companion begins with a heartfelt letter from the author to the students. The first writing pages include a space for relevant terms and definitions as decided by the group and a space for discussion expectations as decided by the group. The discussion questions outlined in the guide are briefly elaborated on and 5 sample situations are included. There is space in the companion to reflect on 50 additional situations as they arise or are presented by the group's leader. Each question set also includes a small unlined space for further reflection. As emphasized in "Name the Thing in the Place", the journey will be difficult and uncomfortable at first, but the resulting solidarity and understanding will make it all worth it.
