Excerpt from Only Anne: A Novel
Nor is it an easy thing for the principal actor in such a drama to take the book of the past, with all that it holds of tender and beautiful, and shut it down and say: I will never open you again. I will never look at you again. I have given you all I had of love and my tears, but the present and the future you shall never possess, lest you spoil my life and break my heart.
Anne Travers made a brief meditation upon the lines given above on a certain fair summer day, when even London could charm, the day, in fact, when she finally decided to effect the said holocaust.
