We’ve sold conventional shelled hemp seed since 2015. That product’s success prompted us to search the culinary seas for an organic counterpart. Once we found one—and once we realized it wouldn’t cost much more—we decided to completely replace the old with the new. So, say hello to Trader Joe’s Organic Shelled Hemp Seeds!

Like the previous version, these are Just the Hemp Hearts, meaning they’ve been hulled to remove the fibrous shell. Though removing the shell does mean less fiber than one might find in other so-called “super seeds,” such as flax or chia, it also means these Seeds make it easier for your body to digest and absorb the nutrients. This is very good news, since our Organic Shelled Hemp Seeds contain plant-based protein (10 grams per 3 Tbsp. serving), and also Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.

Seeds sans shell also allows a texture that is soft and chewy. This, combined with their fresh, nutty flavor, makes for a pleasant profile that complements a plethora of foods, including yogurt, oatmeal, salads, smoothies, dips, and more! Now, doesn’t that supersede your expectations?
