With the promise of new land and new opportunities, people flocked to the Indian Territory in hopes of making their fortune. By 1905, Vinita was as cultured and its people as educated as those in St. Louis and Kansas City. In two more years, the junction in the Cherokee Nation would become the center of Craig County in the brand new state of Oklahoma.
