When newly hired Principal Clay Mitchell of Brandenburg Elementary, returns to his MIdwest roots, he is thrilled to be closer to his adopted parents and family, and is ready for the move to a smaller town. What he doesn't count on is meeting his heart's desire in the local pub his first night out. Olivia Sheffield is feisty, sexy, sassy and has the most kissable lips he's ever seen, paired with a truly curvaceous body that has his libido running on high. After walking her home, they share a passionate kiss. It's only at that moment, that he finds out she is one of his teachers.
Olivia has recently started dating wealthy art gallery dealer, Derek Donaldson, who is well-traveled, smart, gorgeous, and building a strong reputation in his career. Thinking that her path lies with Derek, she is totally thrown off kilter after meeting this new man in town, Clay. A crazy pool game, and a kiss that curls her toes, leads to his quick disappearance off her front porch into the late August evening, prompting her to wonder what his last name is, and if she'll ever see him again.
Well, of course, she does--at the first faculty meeting of the school year! Olivia is shocked to find the studly blonde, blue-eyed 6'2" hunk is her boss! Best friend, Sally Litchfield as well as school secretary, Kathy Tiffin, begin noticing sparks flying between the two whenever they're together...and both decide that maybe a little shove..oh hell...a big push... might get these two together.
But Clay and Olivia are doing their darndest to avoid each other and to stay "professional". Clay's adopted father, Jeff Graves, is also his school superintendent. When Clay hints that there might be a liaison between two staff members, Graves warns Clay about any fraternizing between staff members, even going so far as to explain that if there is trouble in a staff and the superintendent hears of it from any parents, he would have to fire the teachers. So Clay is caught in a conundrum, not willing for either of them to lose their jobs.
As the school year passes, Clay and Olivia, along with their friends and families, experience the highlights of living in a small town. The Fall Festival (where 2nd grader, Gus Kelley, gets misplaced), the Christmas Tree Lighting event where Olivia spills all to her best friend, Sally, a staff Christmas party, an unexpected appendix rupture, and all manner of interactions lead to "unprofessional" albeit tantalizing circumstances.
The sudden and unexpected news of the engagement of Olivia to Derek leads Clay to finally realize that he doesn't want a fling with her--he wants a life with her. He enlists Sally, and his buddy, Dave Garrett, to find a way to convince Olivia that she belongs with him, not the ah-so-perfect Derek. Hatching a plan to get Olivia out of town is Clay's last resort to prove to her that he, in fact, is her "Teacher's Pet" and that life with him might be messy, but together they'll score an A+ under the sheets!
