Our smoldering affection for smoked salmon, smoked trout, and smoked sardines is no secret—nor is it the end of the story, as far as our love for smoked fish is concerned. In fact, we’ve recently had the chance to rekindle our flame for Trader Joe’s Sesame Crusted Hardwood Smoked Ahi Tuna, which is returning to our refrigerators after a brief absence. It’s made with sustainably sourced Ahi (also known as yellowfin or bigeye) that our supplier catches wild in the Pacific Ocean and off the coasts of Micronesia. Our supplier then slowly smokes the Ahi over Hardwood, encrusts it with black and white Sesame seeds, then slices it nice and thin.
With the texture of smoked salmon, the meaty flavor of high-quality fresh tuna, the crunch of sesame and just a touch of mild smokiness, Trader Joe’s Sesame Crusted Smoked Ahi is a uniquely delicious addition to our deli section. You can use it as you would lox or any other smoked fish, on bagels, in quiches, or even eggs benedict, but that’s just the beginning. We recommend trying it on top of a rice bowl with a fresh, ginger-y salad, placed on pizza with freshly sliced green onions, or simply served as an easy appetizer with a little Ponzu Sauce or Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce for dipping.
