After the deaths of their parents, Christine and Francine Lawson are left homeless and destitute. Young single ladies with no saleable skills have few options in 1863 Philadelphia. They had been raised as respectable ladies, and neither sister is willing to become a lady of the night. As luck would have it, the Union Army is recruiting in town. Food, clothing, and medical care would be free, and you get paid. All you needed to do was to be an able-bodied man...
Ryan Bishop and Eli Moore signed up with the Twenty-Eighth Pennsylvania volunteer infantry because it was the right thing to do to preserve their country. They are young and idealistic patriots and soon become fast friends. When two scrawny young boys in the regiment need help and guidance, the two friends take the brothers under their wings. But all is not what it seems to be.
