Squirrel monkeys are small primates that stay in the canopy layer of tropical rainforests in South America. Measuring as little as 10 inches from the pinnacle of the head to the base of their tail, these tiny primates are one of the smallest monkey species. Unlike many different small primates, the squirrel monkey's tail is not prehensile, which means that it cannot be used to grip onto branches. Instead, their lengthy tail is used to help stability whilst climbing about on the excessive branches.
