The author was inspired to write the current book after gaining first-hand experience of stool withholding with her eldest child. Utilizing her research skills and knowledge of developmental psychology, Dr. McGarry has developed a three stage practical approach to tackling stool withholding that was successful with her own child. The approach incorporates research conducted on stool withholding, the NICE and ERIC guidelines and also provides a deeper insight into the psychological, behavioral and sensory issues that underpin stool withholding. Dr. McGarry hopes that sharing this approach will help other families and children facing this challenge.
