Bermann's team returns to Sunrise to offer the Avians limited contact with the Concordat peoples. Two of the team are threatened by a new race; Guy intervenes, killing a Varendrie Lord: Lord Anoth. Guy inherits the Lord's lands, fortress, starship and slaves! When they return to Mars they must put down an invasion by a UN undersecretary who has tried to seize the Martian Colony.
