Travis Bickel is a loner who takes a job as a late-shift taxi driver. Consumed by self-loathing, he becomes more and more withdrawn from reality. Unable to carry on a normal relationship with a woman, Bickel becomes obsessed with saving a 12-year-old prostitute who shows no signs of wanting salvation.
