Originally issued on the Buffalo Bop subsidiary Deejay Jamboree, the acclaimed TEEN SCENE series has moved over to Buffalo Bop proper for Vol. 5. Where other Buffalo Bop series explore the rougher edges of early rock and rockabilly, the TEEN SCENE series has its sights firmly set on youth-oriented kitsch from the late '50s and early '60s--far from a bad thing when you consider the obscure delights to be found on this disc. The exuberant backing vocals on Bobby Towers' "Love To Go" and the eccentric, Joe Meek-like production touches of Don Crawford's "Ugly Duckling" prove that kitsch can have teeth.
