The Anglophone crisis in Cameroon is the manifestation of the failure, or even absence, of a well-thought-out policy of unity and integration. Rather, it is one of the symptoms of a society where politics and governance are not based on values. Personal ambitions clearly take precedence over the general and republican interest. The fight for just causes is very often and very quickly abandoned, sacrificed on the altar of abject pedantry and materialism. Some people's convictions are fragile enough to melt at the slightest hint of sunlight; others' are absolute doctrines, not to be questioned in the slightest. The conflict in English-speaking Cameroon is merely the epicenter of a society more than ever plunged into a multi-faceted crisis, which compromises the ability of Cameroonians to be a people and to define their own destiny.
