The archaeology of Merseyside is extremely rich and varied. The landscape has been modified by humans for over 10,000 years and displays evidence from the prehistoric periods to more recent industrial and built heritage. The Archaeology of Merseyside in 20 Digs explores the archaeology of the region through the lens of 20 excavations, which took place from the mid-nineteenth century to 2018.Archaeology is the study of human activity in the past. This book explores how life has changed for those living in Merseyside from the earliest hunter and gathers to recent times, while also looking at the changes in archaeological techniques, which have been used to document those changes. The Museum of Liverpool holds over 100,000 objects in the Regional Archaeology collection. This book explores some of the most significant excavations in the region, which led to the discovery of many of those objects.
