"That master of mirth in postwar American cinema, Bob Hope (1903-2003), gets his due with this package of five classic features that he toplined between 1947-55. It begins with The Lemon Drop Kid, a remake of director Marshall Neilan's 1934 picture of the same name, which stars Bob as a racetrack addict in hock to a lethal gangster. Road to Rio (1947) and Road to Bali (1953) team Bob and Bing Crosby in two musical comedies, the former about two musicians attempting to wrest money out of a nasty aunt, and the second about a couple of bumblers who try to save a woman (frequent straight girl Dorothy Lamour) from various dangers in the jungle. The 1947 My Favorite Brunette casts Bob as a baby photographer on the run from mobsters, and the 1955 Seven Little Foys finds Hope portraying real-life vaudeville star Eddie Foy, who toured and performed with his young children."
