In the 1970s, the United States and the Soviet Union were locked in the throes of a fierce Cold War. Deep-rooted ideological, economic, and political differences cause the countries to be suspicious of one another, and each nation seeks even the slightest advantage that might tip the scales of nuclear war in their favor, even going so far as to rely on psychic spies. The Russians are the first to employ this method, but that move is quickly answered by the USA.
Realizing university studies showed children innately have more psychic ability than adults, the USA tests some thirty million youths. Of those, seven score significantly higher than the rest and are recruited by the USA.
This second book in the CIA Psychic Teens series introduces the newest member of the team, John Holmes. John's specialties are in counterintelligence, criminal profiling, and forensic science. He has successfully assisted the FBI in the identification and arrest of two mass murderers. The young man has also been instrumental in solving several cold case files that might have otherwise been doomed to dusty archives that would never have been reopened or solved. So successful and perceptive is young John that he earns the nickname "Sherlock." In addition to his amazing psychic abilities, he is an excellent marksman, the only member of the team who is certified to carry a sidearm.
The team's first assignment is to expose a spy at the FBI. Working together, they are successful in exposing the criminal, something the FBI could not do. Their very own Sherlock Homes, comes up with a seamless plan to trick the spy into revealing himself, and it works like a charm-as things often do for Mr. Holmes.
The team is also awarded medals for locating and apprehending a nuclear bomb planted by terrorists, a bomb originally destined to be detonated within the borders of the USA. After the Soviets successfully hijack the bomb from the terrorists, the North Koreans then steal it from them, and it is up to the psychic teens to do the rest. It is not an easy assignment, though, and in order to save John, Lexi is forced to shoot a Korean agent.
The adventure never stops for the team, so Captain Scott and Aurora are sent on assignment by the Secret Service. They are told they must do everything within their power to prevent an attempt on the Soviet premier's life, an assassination attempt set to occur during an address to the United Nations. Aurora, ever the romantic, is thrilled to learn she is to play the role of Captain Scott's wife.
When Shane and Alyssa's parents are kidnapped by Sandinistas, the team heads to Bonacca, Honduras to bring them back home. While waiting for the guerillas to contact them, John must step in to save Aurora from a vicious shark attack. With the help of their superior intellect, they are able to rescue Shane and Alyssa's parents, all while still squeezing in time for a little fun in the sun in Honduras.
Meanwhile, Kim Tu-Bong, an adversary of Becky's and a North Korean psychic, releases a virulent microbe on the team's Air Force base, biological warfare that has the potential of being fatal to anyone who encounters it. Because this vengeful act is meant to settle a score with Becky, she feels it falls on her to save the base and her team. . This episode gives the reader a surprising insight to Becky's dedication to her team.
Follow the CIA Psychic Teens on this astonishing, wild ride through turbulent times-a true testament to dedication, bravery, patriotism, and camaraderie between seven young psychics working hard for peace, for freedom, and to look out for each other.
