Fiction House knew a winning formula when they saw one. Put a beautiful woman in a fur
bikini, let her loose in the jungle and watch the sales go up. Tiger Girl is a good example of this
strategy. First appearing in Fight Comics #32 in 1944 Tiger Girl was created by Robert Webb
although many of her stories were written by Allan O'Hara. Princess Vishnu also known as the
Tiger Girl roamed the jungles of India with her tiger Benzali and her faithful East Indian
companion Abdola. Armed with a whip, a magic ring that increased her strength, and her wits
Tiger Girl battled poachers, bandits, slavers, unscrupulous treasure seekers, and a multitude of
evil doers to protect her jungle and people. It was only a matter of time until she became Fight
Comic's feature character on the front cover.
What made this series so special was the gorgeous interior artwork by Matt Baker, Jack Kamen,
Bob Webb and various other artists in the Iger Shop as well as the covers by Joe Doolin. Matt
Baker's page layouts and his ability to draw alluring women, eerie backdrops and savage animals
