Like everyone else on the station platform that hazy November afternoon, Philip Tethering was thinking about death. But that was death past and gone, the death of all those men killed in the Great War. He never expected to go into the waiting room now, in a world at peace, and find the body of a murdered woman there. The victim is a respectable working woman, with no apparent quarrel with anyone. And when her son is accused of the murder Philip is drawn into trying to prove his innocence and find the real killer.
