Inquisitor Konrad Mainz is a man with a strong sense of justice, a sense that puts him in conflict with the brutal inquisition that he works for. He enlists the aid of Roman Black, a librarian and the latest prisoner to be strapped to Konrad's table. Together they will work to bring down the corrupt church, but could not have guessed their crusade would plunge the Empire into bloody civil war.
