In her most recent collection, 'The Day I Wore My Afro' Lenora McClellan brings us yet another examination of experiences drawn from her own life. 'Afro' is soaked in candor, humility and power, while always rendering in-your-face lessons that elevate the human spirit. Ranging somewhere between humor and melancholy, the superb 'Visible Me' and 'The Day I Wore My Afro' are both telling and arresting. From her play, 'Am I My Father's Son?' it becomes apparent that McClellan has acquired the rare ability to combine comedy and drama in one production, which incidentally, was recently aired on stage in Central California. The entire collection is a brilliant investment on many levels; the African American experience and human soul in general, but mostly speaks to Lenora McClellan's establishment as a playwright, author and poet.
