Many of the incidents herein described are facts related with little embellishment, and if the descriptions sometimes border on caricature, it is for the sake of pointing a moral the more forcibly.
Should it be thought that I have dwelt at too much length on the details of teaching, related unimportant incidents, let me say in reply that I believe incidents which affect the happiness of our teachers, and consequently the great interests of education, can scarcely with justice be pronounced too trivial for narration.
