shows that news organizations construct foreign events uniquely and strategically-as opposed to objectively and neutrally-based on national historical solidarity with global North or South power blocs, current national interest, ownership of the news organization, and the political-linguistic constituency of the intended audience. While there has been research on the role of national interest and news organization ownership, the influence of the intended audience (namely, foreign or national) in the design of news is a new contribution to the literature.
