The text Which I have followed is that of Baiter and Orelli, as revised by Meiser in his recent edition the ms. On which this text is based - the Medicean is generally referred to as M. Very many of the explanatory notes have been suggested to me by the excellent commentary of Heraus: I trust that I am hereby tendering a sufficient acknowledgment of the assistance thence derived. Mr. Furneaux' edition of the Annals has rendered it unnecessary for me to call special and separate attention - except in the notes - to peculiarities of Tacitean grammar.
