This edition of "The Iliad" includes:
- Translation and Preface by Alexander Pope,
- Introduction by Robert Porter Keep.
The Iliad and the Odyssey are the earliest extant works of Greek literature, and they are also the best examples of what are called Epic Poems. The word Iliad means Poem about Ilium. Ilium, or Troy, was a city of what was later called Mysia, in the northwest of Asia Minor, and was situated three miles south of the Hellespont. The poem describes only an episode in the ten years siege of Troy by the Greeks.
