Deniece Campos Landry grew up splitting her time between Germany and Texas, part of a loving military family who never forgot their Mexican-American roots. At eighteen years old she found herself back in Germany—this time with a newborn baby boy, and an enlisted husband she barely knew. But the greatest challenge was yet to come, because at the age of four, her first-born son Miguel was diagnosed with autism. "My little boy couldn't speak, but I made it my mission to pay more attention to the ways he was able to communicate...And lucky for me I did, because he stayed that way for a very, very long time."
