Samantha Robertson becomes obsessed with a 19th century painting of a southern belle named "the matchmaker". She starts having vivid dreams of the lady crying out for help. Desperate to uncover the truth behind the painting's origin, Samantha plans to take it to an expert for examination. However, on the way, she takes a random detour that leads her to Swan's Down, a charming B&B undergoing renovations and owned by Jake Hayworth, an ex-military captain. Jake is grappling with PTSD and a leg injury sustained during an IED explosion that killed several members of his unit, including his best friend. Despite his challenges, Jake has the ability to see and communicate with his deceased friend. As Samantha and Jake become closer, they both begin to unravel the mystery behind the painting and ultimately discover a shocking truth that connects them both.
