Annie, Daniel, and Tess love spending summers at their grandparents' farm. There's so much to do and so many ways to have fun. They can swim and fish and run around. But they also help their grandparents with chores around the house. Some of the chores are a drag, like doing dishes, but others are fun, like helping out in the garden.
One of their favorite things to do is ride their grandfather's tractor, and their grandparents do have a lot of land to explore, including Tater Hill, which looks like a giant potato with trees on top. But the children are warned to stay away from there. The mysterious nature of this unknown terrain is too much of a draw for Annie, Daniel, and Tess though, so they sneak out at night. Led by the fearless Daniel, the trio finds more than they ever imagined, something they can't be sure is real.
