Brokenness precedes surrender to the will and ways of God. This is because troubles enable us to see the futility of our own human strivings to live as Christians in this fallen and sin-infested world. We cannot overcome all that is in the world, or the power of sin our lives, apart from the grace of God and the enabling power of His Holy Spirit.
